Native Americans also left pictographs on Inscription Rock. Soak it all in, then stay overnight in one of two yurts in the islands campground.

Japanese Scholarship Helps Language Students in Need

Until today, there wasn’t a simple way for Steelers Jerseys motivated Japanese learners to get quality free language education. Unlike most major colleges and universities, language schools generally don’t offer any kind of grants or scholarships. Students who lacked the resources to pay for regular Japanese lessons were therefore forced to scavenge the internet for free Japanese learning resources which are often of low quality, or difficult to follow.Today, the online Japanese learning community NihongoUp is proud to announce the launch of its Japanese Scholarship program, intended to help Japanese language self-learners whose financial situation does not allow them to pay for Japanese classes, or acquire quality textbooks and other learning material. This announcement is especially important considering the adverse impact the 2007–2010 economic crisis had on students’ lives. According to data from the landmark study Arizona Pathways to Life Success in University Students (APLUS), funded by the National Endowment for Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 Financial Education, 95 percent of college students say the economic crisis has impacted their family’s finances and 93 percent have felt an effect on their own financial lives. The study reports a major loss of financial confidence among students, as well as 169 percent increase in the number of students who report dropping classes and 106 percent increase in those taking a “leave of absence” from school. Researchers also noted an alarming increase in debt among students, as hundreds of education lenders have suspended private student loan programs or participation in federal education loan programs since July 2007.All NihongoUp Japanese Scholarship applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and those who meet the eligibility criteria are awarded access to all premium features of the site including the full-fledged Japanese language textbooks and award winning games applications at no cost. With cuts to education budgets around the world, and in the light of the English university tuition fee increase and calls to scrap student support money, there has never been a better time to support financially contrived learners. This year alone, NihongoUp aims to award over $15,000 worth of scholarships to aspiring students all over the world.Created at the beginning of 2009 as a simple Japanese language educational game, NihongoUp has since won numerous industry accolades, including the Serious Games Showcase Rosetta Stone English Challenge award, and grew into the best integrated learning solution for a learner of Japanese. Learn Japanese in one easy to use package, online or on the go.

The other problem is that although parents are likely to switch

So they have focused on attracting larger amounts and longer term fixed rate savings instead. Rosetta Stone Store Ms Slade said: The other problem is that although parents are likely to switch their own savings around if rates are poor they don’t tend to look at the rates paid on their children’s accounts so there is less incentive for providers to keep rates on these accounts competitive. If parents did, they would find a few exceptions, with good rates for ordinary savings being paid by Northern Rock’s instant access Little Rock account which offers an interest rate 3% on deposits from 10 and the Halifax Children’s Regular Saver account which pays a fixed rate of 6% for a year on monthly savings of deposits between 10 and 100.Currently the best CTF rates are being offered by the Hanley Economic and Yorkshire Building Societies at 5% and 3% respectively. However, there are growing fears that CTF interest rates could go down further as attention turns to the new Junior ISA cash accounts.Which? executive director Richard Lloyd has called for the divisions between the two to be withdrawn. He said: Unless the Government allows transfers from Child Trust Rosetta Stone Cheap Funds to Junior ISAs, a whole generation of young savers could be stranded on uncompetitive rates. Currently CTFs can be moved between providers and also be switched from cash to a stock and shares version. For example, Foreign Colonial Investment Trust, which offers a stocks and shares CTF, will accept transfers. Its globally diversified investment portfolio has risen 40% in value over the past five years with dividends reinvested. F C spokesman Jason Hollands said: We always thought cash accounts were not the right place for children’s long term savings as they can get eroded by inflation. However, not all stocks and shares CTFs are competitive either. Most have been charging the maximum of 1.5% per annum, even those funds which simply tracked the stockmarket, such as the Nationwide stakeholder CTF which invests in the Legal General All Share Tracker and has returned just 14.5% after fees over the past five years.Fund groups have welcomed the fact that they will now be able to offer an equity Junior Isa without having to provide a cash version too. There will undoubtedly be a fanfare when the new Junior ISAs are launched this year, including cash versions incorporating temporary bonuses to get providers into the top of the charts. What this may mean in the end is that the one lesson youngsters will start learning from a very early age is that loyalty to a financial institution does not pay.Case studyBeth Cameron, 40, from Edinburgh, wants to make her three-year-old daughter’s savings work as hard as possible but she feels it is not easy keeping track of the best rates.Beth, who runs an online children’s clothing business, Imogen’s Wardrobe, Rosetta Stone Japanese V3 named after her daughter, says: When Imogen was born, people gave her money and for speed we simply put it into a Halifax children’s account, Save4it, but we recently discovered how little interest the account was paying and moved some of it to a Little Rock Fixed Rate bond with Northern Rock. It means locking the money away for three years but at least we know what the rate will be rather than seeing it drop after a short while. She has placed Imogen’s Child Trust Fund money into a stakeholder account which invests in shares as she believes the stockmarket will produce the best returns over the long term. To get Imogen into good habits, Beth has also given her a piggy bank for her pennies.

Show your confidence in his abilities by telling him that you believe he can succeed

Saying things like this that may not be 100% true initially will contribute to your Rosetta Stone child's trust and belief in himself, raising his self-esteem and encouraging self-motivation to continue trying. Model a mental attitude of "things are great". Express yourself in the positive, rather than the negative. Kids with autism/AS are masters at copying what others say, so make sure they're hearing things that are good for them to copy! When we say, "you are great!" to a child often enough, he, too, will believe it and feel valued for who he truly is. Encourage children to share their thoughts and feelings; this is so important and often sheds new light on existing situations. My son, Jonathan was temporarily removed from the bus after cutting the seat. At first we thought he was acting out, so we had him write an apology to his bus driver. When we read his letter, we discovered that he was being bullied by another student on the bus and that it had been going on for quite some time. We intervened appropriately. The other child was reprimanded and Jonny was taught appropriate methods of expressing his anger in the future. Balance the Physical with the Mental and Spiritual Like most people, kids with autism feel better about themselves when they're balanced physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Since they are often very picky eaters and gravitate towards junk food, it's important to try supplementing their diet. Also, provide regular physical activity, when possible, to relieve stress and clear their mind. Set the stage for success by acknowledging their achievements - however small - and reminding them of their past accomplishments. Keep their life manageable and doable, refraining from overwhelming them with so many activities that they become too challenged physically and mentally to succeed at anything. Rosetta Stone V3 Provide choices to them frequently so they understand they have a say in their own lives and even let them be in charge sometimes. These are all great ways to build self-esteem! Don't overlook giving them opportunities to connect with their spiritual side through religious avenues or by communing with nature. This can help them feel purposeful, that their lives have meaning and connected with their source. A strategy that helped raise Jonathan's self-esteem, especially in overcoming his victim thoughts and feelings, was spiritual affirmations. Using affirmations took some time, but we found that it brought calm and peace to Jonathan and our family. Dr. Jerry Jampolsky, author of Love is Letting Go Of Fear and founder of the Center for Attitudinal Healing, offers many principles I find helpful in teaching us to love ourselves, thereby enhancing self-esteem, both in ourselves and then with others. Some of his principles include: " The essence of our being is love " Health is inner peace " Live in the now " Become love finders rather than fault finders " Learn to love others and ourselves by forgiving rather than judging " We can choose to be peaceful inside regardless of what's going on outside " We're all students and teachers to each other. Part of Jerry's message is that by focusing on life as a whole, rather than in fragments, we can see what is truly important. His concepts, when embraced, positively affect how a child with autism thinks and feels about him or herself. Anger, resentment, judgment and similar feelings are all forms of fear. Since love and fear cannot co-exist, letting go of fear allows love to be the dominant feeling. Look for the Miracles Daily, there are miracles and good things happening all around us. Learn intimately the challenges that children with autism/AS face in their everyday lives. Be on their team by tuning into who they truly are - unique expressions of divine light. Empower them to be themselves, perfectly okay with who and how they are. Do this by loving them for who they are now, today, not who you think they should become, after ABA, or speech therapy or learning 'appropriate' social skills. Consider that Rosetta Stone French V3 children and adults with autism/AS are wonderful beings here to teach us empathy, compassion, understanding and most importantly, how to love. Most importantly, do whatever it takes to include them in life rather than merely integrate their presence. In genuine star sapphires there are tiny imperfections and inclusions that reflect light perfectly to form a star in the stone. Each child with autism is like this precious gem, unique in every way. Without the tiny inclusions, there would be no star. It is our job as parents, educators and professionals to "bring out the stars" in all of our special children by shining the light on their natural beauty. In so doing, we see their different abilities rather than their disabilities. And, then they will see them, too.

Touchy - Feely (Concrete vs. Abstract)

Ever wonder why kids hang on to their teddy bears, binkies, Rosetta Stone Software blankies, etc. for so long? Have you ever wondered why they don't understand a story you've told them? Because kids are touchy-feely! Children do not actually understand abstract ideas until around age 8. They will be able to pay lip service to something abstract earlier, but most don't actually understand the concept until around age 8. Abstract is not just for art. Abstract means that something is a concept, an idea, something we thought of, something we believe in or know to be a fact, but is not something that can be seen. The results may be seeable, but not the fact itself. Children won't understand this abstractness about a concept until they've learned to understand that an idea is a concept. Think about it. Some great abstracts are God, wind, and charm. You can't see them. But they're there, nonetheless. You see the results of God's power by looking at a sunset, a new calf, or into your child's eyes. But you can't SEE God. You can feel the wind, see its gentle or destructive powers, see things being blown about by the wind, but you can't SEE the wind. And you can see the results of someone being charmed into falling for a scam, but you can't actually see the snake oil oozing out of the con-artist's pores (though you might feel that you can!). Same with kids. They can listen to a story, repeat what you say, and regurgitate it back to you, but they don't sincerely understand the concept of what it would have been like to be the person in that story until they are 8, 10, or even 12 years old. We start teaching children to write at 4, 5, or 6 and they eventually learn to draw the connections between the written words and the spoken words. They learn to write by mimicking what you've written down on paper. But it's hard to get a Cheap Rosetta Stone Software child to write a whole sentence in the first grade. It takes practice on the child's part and patience on the teacher's or parent's part. After weeks and months of practice, the concept of connecting all those written words together into an understandable string of words called a sentence actually gels in the child's mind. The same is true for trying to teach children in the lower grades how to write paragraphs and essays. A paragraph is a more or less structured concept that adults have created that strings several of those nebulous sentences together into a collective thought. Still a concept, an abstract. A young child, who has enough trouble trying to understand what the purpose of a sentence is, will have even more trouble understanding the purpose of a paragraph. Because it's an abstract concept. Draw the connection between those sentences and something CONCRETE that the child can see and touch and feel and you finally have an abstract CONCEPT that the child can see, and therefore understand. Numbers are a concept, and idea in our heads. Numerals, on the other hand (5, 8, 43) are the concrete version that we can see so we use numerals to explain, on paper, the idea of adding and subtracting numbers. With numerals (or blocks or hash marks drawn on a paper), the student can see the concept he/she is trying portray and understand. Parents, teachers, and the community in general need to learn why it is so hard for children to try and learn certain abstract concepts. We, as parents and teachers, have created ad infinitum different ways/formulae/rubrics to get children to write paragraphs and essays. Most of those rubrics don't work with younger children because they are TOO HARD to learn. They are concepts, abstract and nebulous, that a child can mimic, but won't truly understand until they are old enough to understand abstracts. Children (even some high school students) need something simple, something easy to remember, something visual that they can touch and feel, that they can use as a tactile reminder of what that concept is all about. The words paragraph and essay are abstract concepts. The use of something visual and tactile will turn those abstract concepts into something concrete that a child can understand, usually better, faster and more permanently, than other concepts. Enter the Hand. With five Rosetta Stone American English fingers on a hand and five sentences in a paragraph, a child has something visual that he/she can look at and manipulate. Using this concrete device the child will eventually be able to draw the connection between the idea of a paragraph or essay and the written, concrete version of that idea. Use your hand as the concrete manipulative, or find a curriculum that does, to turn the abstract idea into a concrete one from which your student can learn.

There's no shame in being disappointed about a loss

Additionally, there were minor injuries.Yet, at a time where wins and losses don't Steelers Jerseys mean nearly as much as progress and observation, the factors that result in victory and defeat are not as simple as the strength of the team across the line. For Grossman and Hightower, seeing a fully unleashed Steelers defense would be a far different experience.Last night reminded me of Steve Spurrier's tenure with the 'Skins, as Mike Shanahan kept his starters in the game for far longer than Mike Tomlin.Spurrier, however, kept his starters in for nearly an entire exhibition game.Shanahan's gameplan was very different than Spurrier's motive. Spurrier took advantage of the situation to entertain his own ego, playing starters against backups to garner undeserved attention on his own coaching entry at the NFL ranks.Which player had the worse game Friday ngiht?Which player had the worse game Friday ngiht?Jason Worilds17.1%William Gay82.9%Total votes: 228The former Gators wizard took advantage of the situation and slaughtered Steelers backups with Redskins starters, erasing a largedeficit (34-14) and winning 35-34. Yes, that is correct: Spurrier risked the health of his starters to win a meaningless game in the standings. Speaks well to his confidence heading in the season, doesn't it?Needless to say, the coach's "smoke and mirrors" preseason, where the club put up record offensive numbers, didn't translate when the games counted. Not to be ignored is that the Steelers did look sloppy! Not to confuse the aforementioned factors with blind optimism, one has to admit that there is work to be done. William Gay needs to display more crispness with the starting defensive backfield if he is to remain a member of that fraternity. While Willie Colon looked superb, the rest of the line needs to gel together. And, let's be honest Jason Worilds looked very pedestrian while filling in for James Harrison at linebacker. In fact, most of the defensive front was surprisingly out of sorts. So, fans need to relax and let the team work out the kinks.Larry French/Getty ImagesFans who become enraged by a loss at this time of year are simply being irrational. Only one group of men should be angry with their performances. Last night, the only stakes- aside from health- Rashard Mendenhall Jersey were for young athletes trying to make a roster spot.THEY can be angry for the plays that THEY didn't make.Truthfully, losing in the preseason means nothing for the fans. Zip... Zero...Nada.("If the point isn't to win, then why do they keep score?")Selling tickets. There's no shame in being disappointed about a loss. I'm sure fans who pay regular season prices- which is criminal- to attend preseason contests would love to leave with the thrill of victory in their hearts and minds! It's when one uses these outcomes as a litmus test for the real games, exaggerating the events of exhibition football, that their ability to reason comes into question.Larry French/Getty ImagesHave you heard these responses from negative fans?"Damn Steelers offensive line is as bad as ever. We'll never win with those guys up there.""Wow, if we're this much worse than Washington, we're in for a long year.""Trade this guy, trade that guy."Those, along with other common quotes from fans this time of year, are the epitome of overreactions. Senseless overreactions. Winning and losing at this time of the year is not straightforward. The Redskins need practice with the playbook and time on the field for starters. The Steelers? They're the defending AFC Champions. Repetitions are necessary, but not to the degree of other teams just trying to find their way.For Shanahan, keeping the starters in for multiple drives is not a promotional stunt in the vain of former Washington coaches. It speaks to one key facet of his team: they are unproven. A Redskins team that lacked chemistry last season needs every repetition it can get with a reworked roster and full exposure to the playbook is necessary to ensure the players are familiar with it.Contrarily, with their many achievements, the Steelers are very comfortable in their own skin, fully knowing the pedigree of their ability when the season kicks off. Chris Kemoeatu Jersey The unknowns heading into 2011 for the Black and Gold are far fewer than a team trying to find its way, such as the Redskins.Larry French/Getty ImagesAdditionally, the Steelers will be rightfully hesitant to demonstrate anything too spectacular, limiting their expertise and play-calling so as to avoid any observations by certain "Birds of Prey" that await Week 1 of the regular season.Let's all take time to focus on the positives. Like having no penalties for a large portion of the game. At these times, balancing genuine game experience with the risk of injury, I don't envy NFL coaches. It's a fine line between tipping off your early season opponents and not opening up enough of the playbook to truly evaluate the team.Thankfully, that's a job left to Mike Tomlin and his staff, a crew that has seen three playoff season in four years, two Lamar Hunt Trophies and a championship. The Washington Redskins defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-7 last night. More accurately, the Redskins put up 16 points, and the Steelers scored a touchdown during a critical practice that will help both teams field their best players in four weeks. If the team continues to play with funk for each of the next three games, perhaps there should be alarm. I guarantee that will not occur. There's a lot of time to keep getting better. When the team travels to Baltimore with their full bag of tricks on Sunday, September 11th, both sides will start their top athletes for all 60 minutes, and the final result will be critically important.Until then, don't let the "Spurrier smoke" of the NFL preseason blind you to the real wins within each game.

Kirby Lee/US PresswirePackers fans converge on Cowboys Stadium on Sittsburgh Steelers Jerseys Saturday afternoon to check out the scene leading up to today's Super Bowl XLV against the Steelers. The Star-Ledgers Jerry Izenberg is one of only three daily newspaper columnists to have covered all 44 Super Bowls. DALLAS They are the right teams in the right game at the right time. The snow and the ice and the weeklong wind chill dictated that fact long before today, when they spring the locks and open the gates out at Jerry Jones Palace Near Dallas.Americas Team doesnt live here anymore.Today two of Americas real football cities send their teams out after the championship rings only one team can earn in this 100-yard junior varsity version of Armageddon. It is only fitting that this Super Bowl belongs to the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. They are twin reminders of where this league came from in the days when Canton and Decatur, Pottsville and Duluth, Staten Island and even Newark provided Sundays only heroes.Thats where the NFL came from ... mostly mill towns and coal mines, smokestack cities with hard playing fields and leather helmets and canvas pants. Good to remember that before what could be the last football game in a long, long time gives way to the labor battle between billionaire owners and millionaire players across Americas 100-yard horizon. If they are going to go out with their war drums beating a need vs. greed scenario, then these two teams and the cities they represent are the perfect guys to turn out the lights. Green Bay ... the only city in America that actually owns its own major-league team. Green Bay ... where a tough, hard product of a tough, hard town who was named Curly Lambeau prevailed on the owners of the Indian Packing Rashard Mendenhall Jersey Company to provide the uniforms and the name of Americas second-oldest professional football team. This is the franchise that gave us Lambeau and Don Hutson, Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr, Paul Hornung and Jerry Kramer, rickety Hagemiester Park and modern Lambeau Field. One can only wonder what might have happened had the owner of the Indian Packing Company laughed at Lambeau and said:Football? Football? You want me to fund a football team? Get real. Box lacrosse, now theres a sport."The Pittsburgh Steelers ... originally bankrolled off a fabulous racetrack winning streak by old Tim Rooney, the greatest sportsman in the history of a tough steel town that loved a bet, a football game or a heavyweight championship prize fight with equal passion. The Steelers ... a team that couldnt win year after year but never lost their fan base even when the steel mills began to shut down ... the franchise that gave us Chuck Noll and Franco Harris with his Italian-American Army of fans, and Rocky Bleier back from Vietnam ... Terry Bradshaw and Lynn Swann and the Steel Curtain defenders whose kind of football was best appreciated there because they played as tough as Pittsburgh itself. The Steelers are as close to an active dynasty as we have today. The Packers represent the one football town that never changed. These teams could have come straight from central casting for this one. They are what this game needs now when starting tomorrow the cheering dies and the only sounds we will get will be the rattling of sabers from management and labor.Meanwhile, for this one day the game continues to grow with an income that dwarfs those of the worlds banana republics. The North Texas Host Committee raised a record $26 million in corporate commitments to fund this thing. These are the hottest scalper tickets in the history of the game, going as high as $10,000 for Chris Kemoeatu Jersey the right seat, and this time the money is real and not rumor.Money and ego drive this game. This is the only athletic event on the Continental Land Mass where people come without tickets and hotel rooms and stand around hotel lobbies and street corners for so many consecutive hours that the cleanup crews just sweep around them. How the money thing has grown for the players reminds me of two days before Super Bowl I and a breakfast date I had with the Chiefs great linebacker E.J. Holub.Feel my hands, he said, the palms are actually sweating. Is that because you finally have a chance to prove that the AFL has a right to play on the same field with the NFL? I asked.Holub just shook his head and then answered:No, its because each winning player will get $15,000.Today thats just tip money for these guys. And as for the fan determination to just be here?Well, they are telling this story around town obviously apocryphal but not necessarily impossible: Tonight the joint will be packed, and then somebody will notice an empty seat on the 50-yard line and say to the guy sitting next to it: Isnt it odd to have this prime seat empty on this night? No, the guy will reply. It belongs to my wife. We were married for 45 years and then she passed away.Thats a beautiful sentiment. Maybe you should have given it to one of her friends.I tried, but theyre all at the funeral.

Camp Confidential: Sizing Up an Interesting First Week From Latrobe

Lookey here, an exclusive post from Dale Lolley for us here at Sittsburgh Steelers Jerseys Behind the Steel Curtain. Many thanks to Dale for agreeing to provide us with unique insights and access each week until the start of the 2011 NFL season. -Michael B.- By Dale LolleyLATROBE - One week into the Steelers' 2011 season, we've seen plenty of action coming out of the team's training camp at Saint Vincent College. We've seen dozens of signings, a flirtation with Plaxico Burress, injuries and a host of other moves in what has been the perhaps busiest training camp in team history. But there is also some football taking place on the field. Sure, it's been glorified OTAs because many of the team's veteran players have been unable to practice. And there have been some young standouts in the first week. I'll touch on a few of them:© Rookie running back Baron Batch has the look of an NFL running back. There has to be something that I'm not seeing with Batch because he has good size, 5-10, 210, is shifty in the hole, and showed his power in the one-on-one blocking drills, taking James Harrison to a standstill. How in the world did this guy last until the seventh round of the draft?OK, his top-end speed isn't great and he played in an unconventional offense that let him go over 20 carries just once last season. That game also happened to be his Heath Miller Jersey only 100-yards game, against Missouri.Unless he turns out to be a fumbler, the kid is a keeper.© Rookie linebacker Chris Carter is listed at 6-1, 248 pounds, but if he's 248 pounds right now, I'd be shocked. The former Fresno State defensive end looks like a safety and lacks the strength to hold up in the run game. He does show some explosive quickness as a pass rusher, though.© I've been very impressed with sixth-round pick Keith Williams, a 6-5, 310-pound guard from Nebraska. He got thrown into the starting line with Chris Kemoeatu on the PUP list and Doug Legursky being unable to practice for the first week because of the CBA rules.Williams has taken full advantage of his opportunity. Williams looks very strong and has a nasty streak. If Williams gets his hands on you, you're going for a ride and it's not going to be pretty. He caught Larry Foote on a blitz early in the week and drove the linebacker into the ground. The only downside I've seen at this point is that he tends to lose his footing at times.© While Williams has taken advantage of his opportunity, second-round pick Marcus Gilbert has been watching due to a hamstring injury. That's too bad because he could have used the extra work the week with many veterans would have provided him.© First-year tight end Jamie McCoy has been the best, in my opinion, of the young players brought in at that position. He's a tenacious blocker. The team also likes massive Wesyle Saunders and his 6-5, 270-pound frame, but at 240 pounds, McCoy has looked like the better blocker.© Mike Tomlin has been riding second-year linebacker Jason Worilds all over the field. He's Hines Ward Jersey pushing Worilds to take the next step and become the team's top backup outside linebacker.I spoke to Worilds about that this week and he's stepping up to the challenge. He'd better. The team is counting on him to fill that role and become a star on special teams as well - especially with veterans Anthony Madison and Keyaron Fox now gone.

Saturday Diary: Write about the Steelers fan diaspora, and boy do you get letters

I hear of no "Steelers bar" on the moon, but it seems there is one, or five, everywhere Steelers Authentic Jerseys else. These are the places, in every region of the country and beyond, from Shanghai to Peru, where all ages don Steelers apparel, paint their faces and cheer while watching Steelers games. I discovered this after I wrote a "Steelers Nation" Saturday Diary three weeks ago about the doings in a sports bar on Hilton Head Island, S.C.That piece prompted 116 e-mails from outposts far and wide and ships at sea, where Steelers fans gather. But this isn't just a locally bred bunch. Some Steelers fans grew up in, say, England.Adam Sheardown, of Scunthorpe, England, explained: "As a Steeler fan and outsider to the U.S.A., it's always pleasing to learn about the Steelers culture wherever it is. I feel proud to be part of the Scunthorpe, England Steeler Nation contingent. We are another steel town, and even had teams named the Scunthorpe Steelers (basketball and American football); and for decades the steelworks have been a major employer here. People are proud to be part of a blue-collar town, and for that reason Pittsburgh has become a mecca to the limited NFL followers here."Ambridge native Jerry Spinelli sees Steelers games in Patches bar, San Diego. "The oddest bar I found was in Temecula, Calif. -- Steeler fans, but most of the guys there, unlike me, had never been east of San Bernadino."Steelers President Arthur J. Rooney II said in an interview that during the off-season this year, "We found there are over 600 bars that call themselves Steelers bars, at least on Sundays -- at least one in all 50 states. The farthest one was in Honolulu," but outside the United States, it's harder for fans to find televised games.A traveling friend found a bar near the Los Angeles airport, Mr. Rooney said. "In one corner of the place he saw Steelers fans and walked up and tried to talk to them, but they all spoke Spanish. Mexico is a big Steelers nation, so to speak, and we recently put a Spanish language element to our Web site because so many Steelers fans James Harrison Jersey speak Spanish."Thomas Ploskina, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., wrote: "I've watched the Steelers as far south as Peru and Costa Rica with other Steeler fans." Two e-mailers watched games with Steelers fans on cruise ships, and the 3,000-member Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club of Baltimore views games at the Purple Goose.Marine Lt. Col. David Antonik noted: "Steelers fans on active duty are always on the hunt for ways to get our [Steelers] fix, even if a sports bar is not available. While deployed with Joint Task Force Katrina in New Orleans, I talked some California National Guard communicators into 'piping' in the Steelers vs. Patriots game over the data network."North Versailles native Tim O'Brien, of Peachtree City, Ga., said: "I lived in Shanghai awhile back. There was a bar in town, Malone's, owned by an Australian who had tapes mailed in of various sporting events and would play them two or three days after the game. He would play the Steelers six or seven times a year, and it was always packed. He tried to get them every week -- it was his best draw."Pittsburgh-bred Richard Walters, of Encino, Calif., wrote: "On Sunday I go to a bar called Harper's over in Chatsworth. At least 100 people pack into the bar dressed in black and gold watching the Steelers. Many are women and children. On occasion, little girls are dressed in their own Steeler cheerleading outfits. Terrible towels are abundant. Some people are black, some are white, a few are Asians, most appear to be Latinos."After a vicious Steeler hit, someone yells, 'Who got your back?' The crowd yells, 'WE GOT YOUR BACK.' And 'Who rocks?' 'WE ROCK.' I think these people might LaMarr Woodley Jersey be identifying with a hard-hitting 'blue-collar' team."Since many of us grew up playing sports, I'd say we are really rooting for ourselves. The Steelers represent us; if we could, we'd be Steelers now. Maybe we're just delaying maturation or avoiding serious business -- curing cancer, ending hunger. But after a hard week of putting out newspapers or nursing the sick, it's fine to let loose and root for our team. While we now have more a white-collar town than blue-, Steelers fans still love guys who play try-and-stop-us, running offense and here-we-come, blitzing defense. If one player typifies Steelers intensity -- well, let John Hartline, of Detroit, tell it: "Lambert was the best linebacker that ever played the game."Matt Logan, head of the 700-member SteelersInHoboken club, said, "There are so many [Steelers fans], I truly believe that if we all banded together, we could get Jack Lambert voted in as president of the United States."It was said Lambert was so mean, he didn't even like himself. But the flip side, typified now by hard-nosed receiver Hines Ward, was: Jack got the job done, four Super Bowls and all. Tough as steel, unafraid of dirty work.Mr. Rooney said demand for Steelers away-game tickets "is phenomenal." Asked why so many non-native Pittsburghers love the Steelers, he added: "It's hard to explain. I think probably one thing is that people have seen just how much fun Steelers fans are having and want to get in on it." Of the blue-collar image, he said, "I think they do appreciate how hard we play every week."Pittsburghers tend to work hard and play hard, but Mr. Hartline, who saw a Heinz Field Steelers game, likes their soft side: "The people around me took me in like one of their own. They fed me, looked after my well-being."I have two Steelers jerseys, both authentic -- home and away. I wear them around Detroit with pride. People look and comment with the same respect they typically would reserve for the University of Michigan."To live right [in Pittsburgh], you are truly blessed. Don't take it for granted that you house what is truly a 'national' treasure."

NFL Draft: Marcus Cannon Reportedly Has Lymphoma

Pro Football Talk reports that TCU offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, who Sittsburgh Steelers Jerseys has frequently been connected to the Steelers in NFL mock drafts as a second- or possibly first-round pick, has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.Unfortunately, the results of the biopsy showed that Cannon has lymphoma. Doctors had previously been aware of a benign mass that was present for years and is in his stomach/pelvic area.Doctors are recommending that Cannon will have to Rashard Mendenhall Jersey undergo chemotherapy, which could be potentially finished in 12 weeks. Even if Cannon has the most advanced stage of the disease, he could be finished with treatments in 24 weeks and the doctors have informed Cannon he could "hopefully" continue with his football career at that time. This form of cancer is treatable, with survival rates of over 90 percent, and perhaps better for a young man like Cannon. Clearly, however, this will have an effect on Cannon’s draft status, and the timing for him, with the draft set to Chris Kemoeatu Jersey

Plaxico Burress To Be Released From Prison, But NFL Future Unclear

Former Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress isset to leave prisonon Sittsburgh Steelers Jerseys Monday after serving a 20-month sentence, the result of an incident in which he shot himself with his own gun in a nightclub. His future in football is uncertain, but much more importantly, it should be an emotional moment for the Burress family:Burress went to prison in September 2009. His son, Elijah, is now 4. Although Elijah has spoken to his father on the phone every night for 30 minutes, Burress's daughter, Giovanna, was born while he was incarcerated.Burress has seen her on visits that his wife has made to the prison, yet Tiffany Burress has joked in interviews that while her son is Ben Roethlisberger Jersey in his father's image in looks and in shyness, Giovanna is in her image—bold, tough and "absolutely a woman."As for football, it won't be clear what happens to Burress until after the NFL Lockout is over. There have been rumblings around town about a possible return to Pittsburgh, butthat's very unlikely- the Steelers currently have a star receiver in Mike Wallace and three more competent ones in Hines Ward, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. Also, there's the question of whether Burress will even turn out to be an NFL-caliber receiver at this point. He's 33 - past the age when most wide receivers begin to decline - and has spent two years in the clink. Some NFL team will surely take a chance on him, but I wouldn't bet on that team being the Heath Miller Jersey s, and I wouldn't bet on Burress being productive.

Steelers Vs. Saints: Reggie Bush To Try To Play Sunday

Saints running back Reggie Bush, who has missed the last five games Steelers Authentic Jerseys with a broken right fibula, says that the Saints' doctors have approved him to run this week. If all goes well, he could play against the Steelers on Sunday. Based on the time frame here, though, it doesn't sound especially likely that he'll play. Playing an NFL game and being approved to run, even if it's at full speed, are two different things, as Bush suggests here:However, he cautioned Troy Polamalu Jersey that he is not sure how he’ll feel when he tries to make sharp, lateral cuts typically required of him during games. Bush said doctors have told him he’ll know he’s ready to play when he can tolerate those types of football moves."I’m an explosive player, so it’s different doing things in the training room than getting out there on the football field and making those hard cuts and routes and all those things," Bush said. "I’ve got to play a whole football game, not just an hour in the training room."I'm not sure the Steelers should be shaking in their shoes at the prospect of facing Bush anyway, but he's versatile - as the article notes, he can contribute by catching passes and running back punts. If nothing else, his absence would make the Saints a little more Hines Ward Jersey predictable in those areas. For more on the Steelers' matchup against the Saints, check out Michael Bean's feature last week about the Steelers' schedule.

How WiFi Cameras Work

WiFi cameras let you upload pictures automatically to your computer or Rosetta Stone Language Web space from any location -- as long as there's an Internet connection. See more camera pictures. In this day and age, it may seem a cumbersome to connect something, such as a camera, to your computer to transfer information. WiFi cameras, which first made an appearance in 2005, are aimed at solving cable clutter by making it possible to transfer photos wirelessly from a digital camera to a Web site or your computer. This means you can do things like e-mail photos of your trip while you're still on vacation, or get pictures directly off your camera and to an editor quickly if you're a photojournalist. As with non-WiFi cameras, your choice of camera will be dependent on how you plan to use it. WiFi-enabled point-and-shoot cameras retail for a little bit more than their plug-and-play counterparts, from about $200 on up. As of early 2010, no WiFi SLR cameras were available; however, by using a WiFi-enabled SD card called an Eye-fi, many cameras can gain this capability for $50 and up [source: Eye-Fi]. These SD cards have a WiFi antennae Language Learning Software built into them, which allows them to offer basically the same functions as a camera with built-in WiFi, but they lack the on-screen interface if a camera doesn't directly support it. With the Eye-Fi, you set up the card on your computer, then place it in the camera, where it automatically uploads photos to your computer or Web space anytime it detects a compatible WiFi network. Learn MoreHow Digital Cameras WorkDigital Camera QuizDigital Photography BasicsThe difference between WiFi cameras and Eye-Fi cards is straightforward: WiFi cameras are already built to use WiFi functions out of the box, whereas Eye-Fi cards are an extra memory card. Both require a brief setup process and offer the same basic functionality. If you're worried the simplicity of having a WiFi camera comes at the cost of image quality, your concerns are well directed. Certain models, especially early ones, may upload files at lower resolutions than what is stored on the camera. The high-quality shots remain on the camera, so they can still be transferred through a wired connection when you have the chance. You won't have that problem with most newer models, though. So, once you've got your WiFi-enabled Rosetta Stone Italian camera in your hands, you'll need to set up basic features, automatic functions and the Web site or computer to which you plan to upload your pictures. Read on to find out how in the next section.

ADD and ADHD: The Focus Myth

Often, our adult view of the world affects us so much that we miss the obvious. Even worse, Rosetta Stone Language we reinforce each others' mistaken beliefs. Over the last couple of decades, many adults have misunderstood the idea of focus and the ADD/ADHD child.Over a decade ago when I first started working with ADD/ADHD children and adults, everyone seemed convinced that Attention Deficit Disorder was an inability to focus. The name says it all, so to speak. However, as an alternative coach and counselor, it was clear to me that the name was wrong.Early in my work I saw the "problems" of working with this group. In fact, they aren't problems. So, in my book, Managing The Gift: Alternative Approaches For Attention Deficit Disorder, I renamed it Cultural Inconvenience Syndrome, or CIS for short.Individuals who are gifted with ADD/ADHD have two activity "settings." They are hyper focus and multi-task.However, many people don't recognize that ADD individuals can not only focus but actually hyper focus. That's because what children focus on - TV, games, etc. - may not seem to have much value.By thinking that ADD/ADHD children (and adults) lack the ability to focus, our society tries to solve the wrong problem.People come up with solutions and coping skills that seem to work, but aren't actually correct. As a result, opportunities for real solutions are missed. Contributory factors are also overlooked, yet if they were addressed, the answers to ADD/ADHD "problems" might be obvious. As usual, western medicine recognizes - or even creates -- the symptoms, but the causes and preventive action seem beyond their grasp. When you're working with ADD/ADHD children and adults, try asking the following questions. Rosetta Stone Software They can help resolve focus issues, without affecting creativity and the wonderful, wandering intelligence of those gifted with ADD and ADHD.1. Have you presented the subject in an engaging way? Has you helped the individual's mind understand the value of what they are trying to learn?2. Are you allowing (or even encouraging) the learning style that is most appropriate for the individual?3. Have you checked for environmental factors that can make focusing difficult?4. Have you presented the material in different ways, so that the student has choices? Have you made it easy for the learner to move between those approaches, to help the learner absorb the material?5. Are you allowing them to process the information in sections, according to their appropriate processing style?6. Do you allow the student to take the information in a number of different directions? That is, Rosetta Stone English do you answer the learner's questions, even if you do not understand where the questions came from? Do you tie the answers into what they are learning?7. Have you monitored the learner's diet? Diet and environmental issues can affect focus issues, and energy and emotional issues as well. Can a person with ADD/ADHD focus without medication? In my experience, the answer is yes, if everything else is in order and it is structured properly.

Discovery Health Multiple Sclerosis In-Depth

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system (CNS), the nerves that comprise the brain and spinal cord. Rosetta Stone It has two major features:Destruction of myelin, a fatty insulation covering the nerve fibers, is the main characteristic of MS. The end results of this process, called demyelination, are multiple patches of hard, scarred tissue called plaques. (Multiple sclerosis is well named. Sclerosis comes from the Greek word skleros, which means hard.)Destruction of axons, the long filaments that carry electric impulses away from a nerve cell, is also a major factor in the permanent disability that occurs with MS.Myelin is the layer that forms around nerves. Its purpose is to speed the transmission of impulses along nerve cells. The symptoms, severity, and course of MS vary widely depending partly on the sites of the plaques and the extent of the demyelination. Experts generally group multiple sclerosis into two major symptom categories:Relapsing-remittingChronic-progressiveChronic-progressive MS is often subcategorized as primary-progressive, secondary-progressive, and progressive-relapsing.Recent evidence suggests that the disease process starts long before symptoms begin. By the time symptoms appear, there are often already signs of brain and spinal cord atrophy. MS' cause is unknown, and it cannot be prevented or cured. It is not fatal, however, and great progress is being made in treating it and identifying underlying mechanisms that trigger this disease.Relapsing-Remitting Multiple SclerosisRelapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis generally occurs in younger people and is the most common form of MS. It generally follows this course:Most patients first experience a single attack of symptoms called a clinical isolated syndrome, which typically occurs between the ages of 20 and 40 years. Once a second attack occurs, the patient is considered to have relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. The characteristic feature of relapsing-remitting MS is the attack (also referred to as relapse, Rosetta Stone Software flare-up, or exacerbation), which is a bout of specifically MS symptoms (facial pain, Lhermitte’s sign, or bladder instability) that lasts at least 24 hours and typically several days. Such attacks are fairly mild in about half of patients with this form of MS.The disease then goes into remission (when symptoms improve or disappear), usually for about 4 to 8 weeks. To be considered a remission, attacks need to be separated by at least 30 days. Remission periods may be spontaneous or induced by immunosuppressive drugs. A person with multiple sclerosis in remission may have subtle attacks and not realize it. For example, hands may be a little numb for a few days, or there may be slight awkwardness in gait or coordination.Remissions are almost always followed by relapses, in which symptoms flare-up or the patient experiences a period of deteriorating ability.About 20% of patients with relapsing-remitting MS experience little or no progression after a first attack for long periods of time, although by 25 years most patients have converted to a progressive phase.Chronic-Progressive Multiple SclerosisThe term chronic-progressive multiple sclerosis is used to describe cases in which symptoms continue to worsen slowly without remission. About 20% of multiple sclerosis patients (usually those whose first symptoms occur after age 45) have the chronic-progressive form without first developing relapsing-remitting MS. Chronic-progressive MS generally follows a downhill course, but its severity varies widely. Three variants are commonly used to define this patient group:Secondary-Progressive MS (SPMS). SPMS is the natural evolution of relapsing-remitting MS and develops in about half of patients during the first 10 years and nearly all of them within 25 years. It follows a progressive course of nerve and muscle deterioration with occasional acute flare-ups, remissions, and plateaus.Primary-Progressive MS (PPMS). PPMS progresses continuously and gradually from the first onset of symptoms and has no remissions. It occasionally levels off, and minor improvement is even possible. This occurs in about 10% of patients, who English Learning Software tend to be older than average at the time of diagnosis.Progressive-Relapsing MS (PRMS). PRMS is progressive from the start with acute symptom flare-ups, but may have some relapses with continued deterioration between them. It occurs in less than 5% of patients.Because the natural courses of primary-progressive and progressive-relapsing MS are similar, some experts believe this distinction is unnecessary.Click the icon to see an image depicting multiple sclerosis.Review Date:6/10/2006Reviewed By:Harvey Simon, M.D.

Genius and Intelligence

Are we getting smarter? For several years, scientists have Rosetta Stone noticed a general upward trend in the generalpopulation's IQ scores. It has seemed that each generation is a littlesmarter than the one before it. Researchers aren't sure whetherimprovements in education, nutrition, medical care or society ingeneral are responsible for this trend, which is known as the Flynn effect.Like genius, intelligence can be difficult to quantify. Psychologists and neuroscientists study intelligence extensively. An entire field of study, known as psychometrics, is devoted to studying and measuring intelligence. But even within that field, experts don't always agree on exactly what it is or how best to analyze it. And while intelligence is central to genius, not all geniuses score well on intelligence tests or perform well in school. Intelligence testing has existed for thousands of years. Chinese emperors used aptitude testing to evaluate civil servants as early as 2200 BC [ref]. The tests we know as IQ tests got their start near the end of the 19th century. Today, IQ tests generally measure a person's memory as well as language, spatial and mathematical abilities. In theoretical terms, these tests measure a concept or factor known as g. You can think of g as a unit of measure or a way of expressing the amount of intelligence a person has.IQ tests are also standardized so that most people score between 90 and 110. When placed on a graph, the IQ test scores of a large group of people will generally resemble a bell curve, with most people scoring in the average range. A common perception is that anyone scoring above a certain number -- often 140 -- is automatically a genius. But in spite of the existence of high-IQ organizations, many scientists caution that there is no such thing as a genius-level IQ.ImageUsed under the Language Learning Software GNU Free Documentation LicenseA bell curveMany educators and researchers feel that, in general, standardized IQ tests do a good job of predicting how well a child will perform in school. Schools often use these tests to determine which children to place in gifted or special education classes. Most colleges and universities and some employers also use standardized tests as part of their application processes.Intelligence and AdjustmentOne of the stereotypessurrounding gifted children is that they have trouble fitting in atschool. Several scientific studies suggest that the stereotype has afoundation in reality. A Purdue University study of 423 gifted studentssuggested that they were susceptible to bullying. A 20-year study ofgifted children ending in 1940 suggested that the trend of not fittingin continues into adulthood. The study used a test that measured bothverbal intelligence and personal adjustment. People who scored above140 in verbal intelligence generally had lower personal adjustmentscores. However, in spite of their prevalence, these tests are not foolproof. In general, some minorities and people with lower income levels tend to score lower than people from other racial and economic groups. Critics contend that this makes IQ tests invalid or unfair. Others argue that they instead point out unfairness and prejudice within a society. In addition, some researchers and theorists argue that the concept of g is too limiting and doesn't really give a full view of a person's intelligence. These researchers feel that intelligence is a combination of many factors. One theory that tries to provide a more complete view of intelligence is Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences (MI). According to Gardner, there are seven types of intelligence: LinguisticLogical-mathematicMusicalBodily-kinestheticSpatialInterpersonalIntrapersonalMany parents and educators feel that these categories more accurately express the strengths of different children. But critics allege that Gardner's definitions are so broad and inclusive that they make intelligence meaningless. Another less restrictive theory is Robert J. Sternberg's triarchic theory of human intelligence. According to Sternberg, human intelligence includes: Public domain imageWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Genius Creative intelligence, or the ability to generate new, interesting ideasAnalytical intelligence, or the ability to examine facts and draw conclusionsPractical intelligence, or the ability to fit into one's environmentIn Sternberg's view, a person's total intelligence is a combination of these three abilities. Critics claim that he has little empirical evidence for his theories. They also argue that practical intelligence is not intelligence at all, or that it can be explained through other French Learning Software theories of intelligence. The triarchic and MI theories are both relatively new, and critics have pointed out flaws in both of them. However, they may be better able to explain the concept of genius than traditional IQ tests can. Geniuses aren't just people with a lot of g. Mozart, for example, combined musical genius with an innate understanding of mathematics and patterns. Einstein's genius spanned the realms of logic, math and spatial relationships. And all geniuses have a very important aptitude in common -- they have an abundance of creative intelligence. Without it, they wouldn't be geniuses. They'd simply be exceptionally smart. How much creativity does it take to be a genius? We'll look at how imagination and productivity contribute to genius next.

Geography of Syria

Popularly known as the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis, or Whorfianism, the principle is generally understood as having two different versions: (i) the strong version that language determines thought and that linguistic categories limit and determine cognitive categories and (ii) the weak version that linguistic categories and usage influence thought and certain kinds Language Learning Software of non-linguistic behavior. The idea was first clearly expressed by 19th century thinkers, such as Wilhelm von Humboldt, who saw language as the expression of the spirit of a nation. The early 20th century school of American Anthropology headed by Franz Boas and Edward Sapir also embraced the idea. Sapir's student Benjamin Lee Whorf came to be seen as the primary proponent as a result of his published observations of how he perceived linguistic differences to have consequences in human cognition and behavior. Harry Hoijer, one of Sapir's students, introduced the term "Sapir–Whorf hypothesis",[1] albeit infelicitously due to Sapir's non-involvement with the idea and the term's misleading use of hypothesis in a colloquial (i.e. non-scientific) sense.[2] Whorf's ideas were widely criticized, and Roger Brown and Eric Lenneberg decided to put them to the test. They reformulated Whorf's principle of linguistic relativity as a testable hypothesis and conducted experiments designed to find out whether color perception varies between speakers of languages that classified colors differently. As the study of the universal nature of human language and cognition came into focus in the 1960s the idea of linguistic relativity fell out of favor. A 1969 study by Brent Berlin and Paul Kay claimed to demonstrate that color terminology is subject to universal semantic constraints, and hence to discredit the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis. From the late 1980s a new school of linguistic relativity scholars have examined the effects of differences in linguistic categorization on cognition, finding broad support for weak versions of the hypothesis in experimental contexts.[3] Effects of linguistic relativity have been shown particularly in the domain of spatial cognition and in the social use of language, but also in the field of color perception. Recent studies have shown that color perception is particularly prone to linguistic relativity effects when processed in the left brain hemisphere, suggesting that this brain half relies more on language than the right one.[4] Currently a balanced view of linguistic relativity is espoused by most linguists holding that language influences certain kinds of cognitive processes in non-trivial ways but that other processes are better seen as subject to universal factors. Current research is focused on exploring the ways in which language influences Arabic Learning Software thought and determining to what extent.[3] The principle of linguistic relativity and the relation between language and thought has also received attention in varying academic fields from philosophy to psychology and anthropology, and it has also inspired and colored works of fiction and the invention of constructed languages.
